Members of a small scam group were arrested last year in Kirov, Russia.

Two members of the group (Andrey Vershinin and Ivan Samovarov) were identified as group leaders by the girls who picked up the money for them.

The criminal trial started on April 3rd 2006. Both men were found guilty of violation of law by the article 159 (Fraud) part 2 (when conducted by a group of two more people) by the Criminal Code of Russian Federation.

Vershinin's wife was at first a co-defendant in the trial, but later agreed to testify againt her husband in exchange for dropped charges.

I was told that Andrey Vershinin got 3 years of probation and Ivan Samovarov got 2 years and 3 months of probation. They already re-paid the complaining victims all the funds.

My agency did not handle this case, but hey, it's great news for all of us!!!

Probation is nothing rreally,it just means that they are still on the outside and will still carry on scamming.New name,new area,they wont change.
In the UK they would have got a custodial sentence possibly for fraud,or deception,or for both.They would have ben locked up for at least a couple of years.
Never mind,at least the courts are aware of them now,if its any consolation.

I'd be interested to hear what the terms of the pobation are, if any.
Here, it would be appropriate to see them forbidden to touch a computer, or live in a dwelling with one, for the term of probation.
It's strangethey had the money to repay the victims. Surely not all victims were repaid, or complained. I'm guessing the money they returned was from other victims.
