So, yestarday we celebrated 23/02.....in soviet time 23/02 was Day Of Soviet Army.....now it is Day of the defender of fatherland (not sure about correct translation)))))

In reality all women always congratulate their mens says"thank you"to them that they are always can defend women at any situation
Yestarday I called to my father and congradulate him as well So, actually this day can be called ''Mens Day" ))))))

But very soon comes 08/03.....And this is Womens Day ...If you have russian girl friend - buy her at least flowers in that day She will be really happy
In that day all men buy flowers (flowers very very expensive in that day in Russia )))) and chocolate and champaigne and present of course

after 08 of march-womans day...comes....
1st of may))-most of country have it as well


09 of may -Victory Day.....This is something what i could not explain with my english I mean that impossable for me explain what people feel in that day and how its important...
Just Respect this day and Memory .... as much as you can,if you are foreigner......

During those days my city Saint Petersburg celebrate 305 years annivesary .

You're from St.Petersburg? I was there about 4 years ago- such a beautiful city- no wonder they call it the Venice of the North!

I was in St.P for a few days in 2005- very impressive, and more far more interesting than Moskva...

Absolutely! It's really difficult to avoid polticis sometimes... but- how true that rivalry shows its head everywhere. Actually, it's just nature in practice. Political ideaologies such as equality, anti-discrimination, etc, are merely political impositions where laws are used to enforce these ideals. Left to our own devices, we have the natural instinct to prefer our own- such as with the rivalry of Moscow-St.Petersburg, Britain-France, Poland-Lithuania, Jersey-Guernsey, even one village vs another right down to neighbour vs neighbour. It's everywhere- and what better example than team sports?

Whoever can solve politics would have to be a genius amongst geniuses... Anyone want to join the Frog Party? I'm the only member so far, but you know what they say- from little acorns big trees will grow. I think I've stumbled onto something here...

Anyway, as far as Moscow and St.Petersburg are concerend, I would vote for St.P... definitely.

As long as she can speak fluent Russian you should have a great time. Remember that seeing a lot of places there are two prices, one for tourists and one for the locals. [museums are a classic example] That may have changed in the last few years since I've been there but I doubt it.
