Russian Detective

I have no doubt that in Russian woman scams, the girl's pictures are stolen and that we are not communicating with the girl in the picture. However we are always told here that it is a Russian man, not a woman, who is doing the scamming. Do you guys have proof or evidence from previous cases that proves it is always a Russian man doing the scam? I am curious about this, because I always read this in the posts, but I have never read any facts to confirm this statement.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting you mods or the admin, who are the experts here. I just want to understand what's going on behind the scenes with these scams.

I already read that article on Marisa's site some time ago. The The article states "almost all scammers are students, and usually guys rather than girls" and that "Yoshkar Ola, the capital of Mari El, is also the capital of scammers".

So I guess one could conclude from that article that Russian woman scams originating from Yoshkar Ola are mostly done by Russian male students. I don't have any reason to doubt the information in that article, but on the other hand I don't have any reason to totally believe or trust that information either, considering it came from a Russian Internet site and is not any kind of official information.

I would still like to see more factual information about this if anyone knows of any such information. I can only remember reading two actual stories. One was about an Australian guy who wrote a letter to the Russian government to complain he had been scammed, and president Putin himself ordered an investigation against the scammer that turned out to be a man and wife team. The other story I read was about 4 people (2 men and 2 women) arrested in Yoshkar Ola for scamming. This story can be found at

Why don't we ever see any pictures of these Russian male scammers who pretend to be Russian females? All we ever see are the Russian female pictures who are usually just innocent victims whose pictures were stolen. I want to see some pictures of Boris, and Vlad, and Ivan wearing prison uniforms.

This do you? You'll have to dig for the story. It's here somewhere, but a lot of posts have been made since the picture was posted with the story. It's a real picture of real Russian scammers who were arrested. Unfortunately that doesn't happen anywhere near as often as we'd like. We know from experience and dealing with other forums that very few scammers are actually women, and most of those that are really women are small time scammers and pro daters who use their real pictures. I'm sure Elena can fill you in with some more stories from her professional background in dealing with these scammers. But give her time, she's a busy person.

It will be a while before you see that, unfortunately. There are about 50-60 cases pending against Russian dating scammers in Y-Ola right now, but the LE is dragging their feet. The scammers pay some of police investigators to make sure that the victims have to jump through the hoops to get the cases moving.

As for the photos of male scammers, I would publish some but until the cases against them are pending I would rather not do it because it can create a sticky legal point later on.

The information that the scams in Mari El are run by males comes from police who interviewed the girls, from WU cashiers who already gave some accounts of what they see, and from the scammer's own admissions.

I read there's also scammer's from other countries like Nigeria and US? There was a big bust in California some years back went into the million marker or so it's said? I think sometimes Russian men get too much credit? JMO

Too deep in it? Not really, but I do get a certain kick out of bringing a measure of humiliation into a scammer's life. And not just the Russian ones. I'm an equal opportunity scambaiter. I'll work a scammer wherever they are or wherever they claim to be. Hell, I don't even care what sex they claim to be. So no, maybe you shouldn't count on my "vote" Wink

You have to remember I don't just bait Russian scammers. Almost all Russian scams are done as a female character, but places like Nigeria have scammers that use both male and female characters. So when I bait a Russian scammer (and remember that this site is dedicated to them) then real females are best for me, but with other types it doesn't matter because I can bait them as a male or female character.

With all the poor countries in the world, its still a bit surprising that the vast majority of all internet scams come from 3 areas.

Russia (Mari El and Ukraine predominantly)

West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast)

The Philippines.

I guess the other poor and underpriveleged people in the world are just too stupid, or proud, to do things like this??

I hope they are just as smug about their honesty?

A thief, is a thief....no matter why or how they do the crime.

People that like to be smug about internet crimes usually aren't smiling when some sort of thieve pays them a visit.

Whether it's an internet scammer, or some thug crawling into your window in the middle of the night......moral, and honest people don't find them amusing.

I rebember on one interview one big boss asked me whats the difference between to work in Latvia(for example Wink

) or in Russia;)I was not ready for that question and first what obviusly comes to my mind was - russians always break law,rules and any instructions Wink
