RD regulars,

I have two calls for help.

1. I am trying to collect links to the reports about Russian gay scammers on the internet. They are being collected for a possible news story on Russian TV about Russian dating scammers. Several Russian TV stations and newspapers have published stories about fake Russian brides, and we want one TV station to do a story about Russian gay scammers. We have 2 actual case of gay scammers caught in Yoshkar-Ola (charges against one of them are currently pending), but we want the TV station to see the scope of the problem with these scammers pretending to be gay man looking for love.

So, if you want to help out, just do a google search of "gay scam Russia" and post the reports about gay scammers here (in this thread). The reports with the photos and some story explaining the scam would be the most helpful. If the victim lost money, please note that when posting a link to the report.

2. I have given 2 interviews to US TV stations in the past, and I received a ton of mail after those stories from guys saying that those TV stories saved them from being scammed. I think it has been long enough since the last TV story aired, and I would like to do at least one or two more stories like that, to bring this problem back into the spotlight. The negative exposure of this problem in Western countries will create interest in Russian media. We need the exposure in Russian media to keep the police from getting too lazy with scam cases.

So, no matter which country you are from, if any of you can find contact information for any of the media outlets in your country, be it TV, radio, newspaper, or even some prominent Internet source, and help me to compile a letter to the editors of that media outlet asking them to make a story about Russian scammers, it would be great.

On the gays subject... I know that there are some nation-wide organizations for gays and lesbians. I wonder if they have any email newsletters or something like that, and if they would be interested in doing a story on Russian gay scammers.

In the UK BBC radio five has a late-night ( 10.00 pm - 1.00 am. ) current affairs Chat show and phone-in programme hosted by Anita Anand on Monday - Thursday.

I think I will contact OFT and see if they would be interested in putting pressure on Russian DAs to move the cases forward.

I have 2 victims from UK, scammed by the same scammer, for a total of about 7000$$. We already know who the real crooks are, and the case against them is open, but the police is dragging their feet.

Can anyone offer me help with writing letters to the media? I am busy at school and I barely have time to work on the prosecution cases here and there, but that leaves me with almost 0 time to work with the media contacts.

I don't know if you are still interested. I just posted a case of gay scammer on your website (see "Maxim, Maksim", on the Scammers forum) and I can give you the additional information you may need, although it's only a case of intented scamming. I'm planning a trip to Russia very soon, maybe that could be helpful to you.

I am always interested! Welcome to the board, by the way.

Most of all I need help with media contacts (http://www.russian-detective.com/scams/media.htm) and with translations of the Russian Dating Scams 101 (http://www.russian-detective.com/scams/first_things_to_know.htm) into different languages (all languages one can think of).

If you know of any gay publications, talk shows, magazines etc, that would be a big part of the media contacts goal.

Whatever we can do to hurt the scammers, they don't care if it's a man/woman/he-she, or eunuch they are scamming, after all they have no intention of actually meeting and having sex with the victim in most cases.

I am activly communicating the message to all forms of media and
public information resources to awake the seriousness of this problem, I have been approached by these scammers on the internet social networks and I never saw a good friend from this activity.
